siblu's environmental actions

As a growing company siblu takes its responsibility to the environment seriously.

what does the concept of responsible tourism mean to siblu?

In our 14 holiday parcs in France, responsible tourism means that we will:

  • Take steps to fight against global warming
  • Minimize the carbon footprint of our infrastructure, our teams and our guests
  • Reduce, reuse and recycle our waste
  • Use as many renewable resources as possible

An independent audit has allowed us to assess all of the energy consumed on our holiday parcs and to seek effective solutions to reduce our carbon footprint.

some measures already implemented on our holiday parcs:

We have published an energy guide to help our teams reduce their energy consumption within the mobile homes, in public areas and administrative offices.

We have installed electric and gas meters to help us to identify any wastage of energy and to quickly spot unusual increases so we can take appropriate action. We now use electricity meters with mobile home owners at three siblu parcs to encourage more responsible consumption.

We have undertaken water saving in our mobile homes and office space and this has already led to a reduction in consumption of approximately 273,000 litres per year;

At swimming pools in nine of our holiday parcs we use HeatSavr, a biodegradable liquid that forms a transparent layer on the surface of the water and works as a blanket to slow down the escape of heat from the pools so we can use less energy to maintain their temperature each day, saving up to 40% on energy used to heat the pools.

We are gradually replacing our traditional light bulbs with energy saving light bulbs in public areas and installing efficient lighting around our new holiday parcs, which gives as much as a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions from street lighting in some holiday parcs.

Our brochures and marketing materials are printed on recycled paper, according to the recommendations of the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). In addition, each year we send less paper brochures and encourage guests to find information on our comprehensive websites:

We are pioneering many environmentally friendly developments at our holiday parc Domaine de Litteau in Normandy:

  • We naturally treat wastewater in a reed pool
  • We have installed low energy street lighting
  • We have created parking spaces out of recycled materials
  • We opened a new pool complex in 2010, which has a roof made from clear polycarbonate panels that trap air for insulation. It also uses and intelligent air and water heating system to decrease energy consumption by approximately 70% compared to standard techniques.

carbon offset with siblu

For three years we have worked with co2balance, one of the world's most active agencies in reducing CO2 emissions, to offer a "Plant a Tree” programme for customers who wish to offset the carbon footprint of their holiday. Together, we've already planted about 2,200 trees in a protected area of southern Brittany.

To participate in this program, customers simply choose to pay £10 when booking their holiday to finance the planting and lifetime management of a tree, which will compensate for the carbon they produce by travelling to France.
