One of the favourite destinations of British holiday makers, Italy is a country of natural beauty and buzzing cities.

With so much of northern Italy covered by mountains it's no wonder that Italy has some of the most stunning scenery in Europe.  In the shadow of the Dolomites, the beautifully clear waters and beaches on its edge, Lake Garda is certainly stunning.  It is Italy's largest and most popular lake.  The quiet villages and old towns around the lake enjoy a sunny, sheltered climate.  Verona, famed for its Roman arena, Romeo and Juliet and operatic spectaculars, is well worth visiting.

Venice

Venice is famously built on a cluster of small islands and it's everyone's dream city.  Superbly beautiful and rich in architecture and art it has a history stretching back a thousand years.  The city is full of breathtaking sights and who can resist a romantic trip along the waterways in a gondola, or a walk around the fascinating centre and spectacular Piazza San Marco?  Along the Venetian Riviera there are colourful islands, pretty fishing ports, lively towns and glorious beaches.

Tuscany

With its vine-covered hills, this is quintessential Italy, where the scenery is a magic pallet of colour.  The wealth and riches of Italian art lie in towns like Florence (Firenze), a beautiful city with narrow streets and renaissance buildings including the domed cathedral of the city, the Santa Maria del Fiore, known as the Duomo.   Florence is perhaps most famous for housing Michelangelo's 'David'  at the Gallery of the Accademia. 

Also on the must-see list in the area is striking Sienna and Pisa, famous of course for it's cathedral.  And a tower that apparently wasn't built properly so that it leans...
