Local town Pornic is a beautiful fishing village with Breton charm. The town’s medieval castle has protective towers drawn up at the entrance of the port.
saint-nazaire
Is an important seaport and a great shipbuilding and industrial centre. The town was a major German submarine base during World War II and the impressive submarine pens should be seen, along with a tour of an old submarine.
guérande
Is a walled town famous for its salt flats (the name is Breton and means White Land). The salt from around Guérande is still reckoned to be some of the finest - and purest - in the world. Roman soldiers were paid a regular wage in salt, which is where our word 'salary' comes from (the French for salt is 'sel').
