Nearby, there are smaller sandy coves to visit. And further afield more adventurous beach-goers can experience the pounding waves and fragrant forest delights of Le Cote Sauvage (surfboards recommended!).
Or how about a spot of island-hopping: offshore from La Rochelle, Ile de Ré, Ile d’Oléron and Ile d’Aix are easily accessible by bridge or boat. As well as sandy beaches and surfing, there are also great cycle paths, hiking routes and outdoor pursuits for all tastes and ages.
