Must see guide to Languedoc, in France

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

How to describe Languedoc? Well, it’s the bit of France’s Mediterranean coast that most of us can’t name, ie, it’s not the Cote d’Azur. But being the south of France, you still get incredible sunshine, beaches, a relaxed attitude to life and beautiful scenery.

It used to be said that Languedoc was a well-guarded secret for the French, but the secret has been busted and the region is now one of the most popular holiday destinations in France.

What’s wrong with 10-minute restaurant waits?

Monday, October 20th, 2008

The Energy Saving Trust has just launched research about the environmental habits of 11 countries across Europe. The findings make interesting reading, but as my focus is on France, I couldn’t help but raise any eyebrow when reading the following bullet point tucked away in the text:

  • Twenty-one per cent of Frenchmen and women spend more than 10 minutes a week waiting for their food to arrive in a restaurant.

What a strange statistic to use in a report on energy saving.

Buy your warning triangle before driving in France

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

French law has been changed to make it compulsary for cars to be equipped with roadside warning triangles. Although this has been law for several months, there has been a grace period while shops have restocked with the products.

This grace period is now over and anyone stopped will be liable to an on-the-spot fine, so make sure you are carrying a warning triangle and high visibility jacket when driving in France.

A quick search on the internet under the term ‘road safety equipment’ suggests that these can be bought for under £10.

Le Bois Masson, one of our two siblu holiday parcs near to St-Jean-de-Monts in the Vendée, is opening its doors during the October school holidays for the first time, so visitors can soak up the atmosphere and preparations for the fantastic Vendée Globe event, where contestants sail single-handed around the world.

Are back to work blues cutting short our holidays?

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Research by Indesit has found that more of us cut short our weekends because we start worrying about work, and even answering emails, on a Sunday.

If the day of rest has already been affected, do these findings have any relevance on how we spend our holiday time?

Wine whine

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

I’m ashamed to say that despite being a Francophile, I’m the world’s worst wine buff. Waves of inadequacy flow over me if asked to choose a red, white or rosé when with friends. I live by the rule of house-rouge for meat, house-blanc with fish, and house-rosé for my wife.

So it was with mixed feelings I settled down to a Rhone Alpes sponsored lunch at a recent industry get together, when the host told us that there were three wines to try for the aperitif, three more with main course and another three for dessert.

How to make the sun shine

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Walking the dog this morning I was wet, cold — what a start to the week. Where has the British summer gone?

Okay, okay, can some positive thinking actually brighten things up? When I was in Brittany in the middle of June the sun was cracking the pavements and they told me it had been since April. A later trundle down to the Vendée, a bit further south, and I was left regretting the decision to wear my jeans when the locals were topping up their tans in a snazzy array of shorts and swimming costumes.

Don’t believe me? How about a spot of positive visualisation? These are our brand new brochure photos, taken at a selection of our northern siblu parcs just last week. Blue skies at Domaine de Kerlann, golden beaches near to Pierres Couchées, cheeky children at Domaine de Litteau and a sun-splashed sun terrace at Domaine de Dugny. I’m starting to feel brighter already…
